Network Administrator (Part Time)

Status:                                      Part Time Contractor (18-30 hours per week, up to 1 year)
Salary Level:                           $14 - $16 per hour
Department:                            Research and Development / IT

SUMMARY: The Network Administrator will work alongside with IT staff on core business servers and ecommerce web farm. The Network Administrator should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establishes network specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements; designing router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols.
  • Establishes network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls.
  • Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor.
  • Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation in accordance to PCI compliance and internal policies; maintaining documentation.
  • Prepares users by designing and conducting training programs; providing references and support.
  • Upgrades network by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
  • Meets financial requirements by submitting information for budgets; monitoring expenses.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

    Familiar with TCP and application layer protocols such as HTTP, SMTP, VOIP, SIP, IPSec
    Fibre channel, Iscsi

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively present information to a wide range of audiences which includes, end users, technical staff, vendors, department management, and senior management. This position also needs to be able to communicate technical issues with non-technical audiences.  

    REASONING ABILITY: Must obtain the ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions into a mathematical form or diagram, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
